The Diatom Hat

My new design is finished--the Diatom Hat.  This has been the subject of the majority of my tweets lately, primarily because I wouldn't let myself move on to my next project until it was finished.  I like it, but not on me, espcially not in pink.  Why the Diatom Hat? Because to me, it looks like a diatom.  I'm just not sure why anyone would want to wear a diatom on their head.  The design is essentially a 3-cornered beret or tam.  For some reason, I was struck with an inspiration to design a hat in the shape of a diatom...maybe because I had just joined the Science Knitter group on Ravelry.  I'll eventually get the pattern typed up...I'd just rather go knit something else than deal with this hat anymore.  More power to all the knit designers out there...this is a process I don't necessarily enjoy, but it is a great workout for your brain and your patience.   Now to cast on a very simple cap for my 5 y.o.--he found some dark blue yarn in my stash while we were doing an "airing of the stash" as Brenda Dayne calls it, and begged for a hat out of it.  Then, I'm really, really going to start my Modular Garter Stitch Jacket...or the "Coat of Many Colors" as I call it (lots of Noro going into it).

Low Fiber Diet...NOT!

Okay, so I planned to not add any yarn to the stash this year and to only knit from stash. I did well...for about 3 months. Then I happened onto some 1/2 price Lion Brand Cashmere Blend at Beverly's--how do I pass up cashmere? I've never knitted with it, so it fell into the catagory of "it's a treat...it's for research...I have to sample it or I won't be able to know what it is like to knit with..."--all very good rationalizations for going off my fiber diet. Then, along comes Big Lots...throwing perfectly good wool blend yarns at my feet for $1.50 a skein...what's a girl to do? Landscapes, in Deep Sea colorway...so pretty. So I indulged, again...I will be good, for now...until the next "treat"--my LYS is moving, and I'm sure the Grand Reopening on May 2 will be another opportunity to fall off the wagon. I have a good excuse, too...I need some more Brown Sheep Cotton Fine to go with the 2 skeins I found for $1 at my thrift store (which I'm having major withdrawls from, as it burned to the ground a month ago). I could knit a beautiful shawl from those 2 skeins -- if I only had about 6 more skeins (okay, maybe 8) to round out the yardage. Maybe, just maybe, they'll have some in stock and it will be on sale for the opening. I have to go to the opening of course, since I will need to report on it, even if I am the only one reading my blog. Besides, there will be goodies -- like free yarn.

Yum....

Nutella cannolli...what more can I say...everyone gave these a 5 DPN rating. Notice there is only one left in a box of 4. Took a lot not to eat it so I could take a picture. Picked them up at the Farmer's Market yesterday -- worth every calorie. The fresh tomato pies were good too (kind of like a pizza, not very cheesy though, sliced fresh tomatoes, lots of garlic, & basil on a homemade crust--probably more photogenic), just not the same as NUTELLA CANNOLLI! This man is a genius.

Where I talk about my knitting & etcetera...

Yep...here I am...it will get better, I promise.
